Foods~~

Before I go to China, I never imagine what kind of food will I eat and how it taste. I tell myself that everything is okay as long as it is not pork, blood or some food that forbidden to eat (based on my religion). I thought, I would find the taste as same as Indonesian foods but in fact, I never found the ‘Indonesian taste’ in Chinese food up to now. There are maybe some similar kinds of food but it tasted totally different since I hardly find any Chinese food using sweet soy sauce here, in China.
Indonesia has many kinds of foods. There are thousand islands in Indonesia, and each of them has different style and taste. There are national and regional dishes that are all unique and taste well. The Unique part of eating in Indonesia is it is common to see people eating with their hands while others using spoon and fork. In China, people using chopsticks every time and in every food. They also eat porridge with chopsticks. They use spoon only for soup and I can’t find fork except in Pizza Hut restaurant. This is different with Indonesia. In Indonesia, people use chopsticks when they are eating noodles.
Indonesian food often put salt, or other spices on its food because Indonesia known as “Spice Island” that’s why European take over our country in the past. Indonesian food is influenced heavily by coconut milk, soy sauce and peanuts. Chinese foods usually use less of sauce and more use of straight forward or raw ingredients. If in Indonesia people use coconut milk for ingredients in their food, people in China drink the coconut milk like they drink orange juice. I also experience to drink coconut milk juice and feel strange because it is beyond my imagination but that is still delicious. Because the use of spices make Indonesian food taste better in my mouth than Chinese food because most of them are tasteless for the vegetables and seafood or other than that, Chinese foods are spicy and it is spicier than spicy foods in Indonesia.
Both Indonesian and Chinese food have their own culture, their own uniqueness, and their own characters. It is a good experienced for me to taste the real Chinese food in China and recognize the differences with Indonesian food. I like China and Chinese foods but I prefer to choose Indonesian foods anyway
